All Pro Football Tight End for the Baltimore Ravens. Played college ball at Oklahoma. T1D diagnosed at age 9, but never held him back. 2021-2022 NFL receiving yards leader and tied for TDs for tight ends.
Adam Duvall - Atlanta Braves
MLB 2021 World Series Champion with the Atlanta Braves. 2016 MLB All Star. Played college ball at Louisville. T1D diagnosed at age 24, but learned to live and play top level ball with it.
Lauren Cox - Los Angeles Sparks
WNBA Power Forward for the Los Angeles Sparks. Played college ball at Baylor. Diagnosed with T1D at the age of 7, but never let it get in her way. ESPN ranked her the second best collegiate women’s basketball player in the nation.
Charlotte Drury - U.S. Olympic Gymnast
Member of the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team for the 2020 Summer Olympic games in Tokyo (held in 2021). Her specialty is the trampoline. Diagnosed with T1D just weeks before her Olympic trials. Posted on Instagram that stuff “happens but we don’t have to let the hard things stop us…sometimes we just have to allow them to (aggressively) guide us in new directions”
Max Domi - Columbus Blue Jackets
NHL player for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Playing in his 7th season after being drafted in the first round by Arizona Coyotes. Diagnosed with T1D at age 12. Inspired by NHL HOF Bobby Clarke who also has T1D - he even wore Clarke’s number 16.
Jordan Morris - Seattle Sounders FC
MLS winger/forward for the Seattle Sounders FC. Played soccer at Stanford University. Played for the U.S. National Team. Found out he had T1D at the age of 9. Has a TID tattoo on his inner arm. Quoted as saying “Diabetes has made me who I am today. It’s just part of life. I’m lucky to be where I am, and there’s so much worse that can happen.”
Scott Verplank - Golf PGA Tour
American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour. He attended Oklahoma State University where he was a member of the 1983 NCAA Championship Team. He earned five wins on the PGA Tour and two Ryder Cup appearances. He was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 9 years old.
Blake Ferguson - Miami Dolphins
Long snapper for the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. Played college football at Louisiana State University where he was captain for 2 years and won the National Championship in 2020. He was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 13. When he was diagnosed he was searching professional athletes with T1D on his way to the hospital.
Kaapo Kakko - New York Rangers
NHL player for the New York Rangers. Born in Finland. Drafted with the overall second pick in the 2019 NHL draft. Is the 8th player in NY Ranger history to score a goal at the age of 18 or younger. Diagnosed with T1D in his teenage years. Quoted as saying “When I got it, I thought, can I play anymore? But I trusted myself and kept going. If you trust in yourself, then it’s easier. You can play hocky and do whatever you want to do.”
